ABOUT US

"Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop."

Vision

Our work changes lives. It creates opportunity.  It ends isolation. It gives hope.  The journey to being successful is not always a clear roadmap. There are a variety of physical, mental, social, and economic obstacles that our customers face, but our team is there every step of the way to determine the challenges, the opportunities, and the best path to take. This has allowed us to create a menu that provides our customers with the choices of what works best for them, will always presenting paths that lead to positive outcomes.

ECS service menu dialogue includes case management, employment services, housing, education enhancement, behavioral management and mental health intervention. These services are customized according to the customer’s needs and are driven by specification to provide every person with an opportunity to be successful.

ECS has made every opportunity to touch the lives of their customers through  a network of programs. One of ECS’ key program highlights is the services through A New Start At Kia's Place.  This program was created with the vision to help young women and their children become stable and end the chilling effect of being homeless.  This program was named in honor of Kia D. Banks-Annis.

Kia D. Banks–Annis helped open the doors of Echelon Community Services, Inc. (ECS) in 2003, as its first Deputy Director. During Kia’s career at ECS, she embarked on the journey to further her education in social work.  She attended Howard University  School of Social Work  where she was diligently working toward a Master’s Degree.  Her career aspirations always involved a profession helping others.  Also, in her personal life she always strived to help others.  Kia adopted a special needs infant from the Child and Family Services Agency and was a trained volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the District Heights Fire Department.

Kia also had a gift of bringing people together. Throughout her life she met people from all walks of life and tried to help facilitate relationships that were based on mutual respect for all. Kia loved people of all stations in life, as she would have loved the residents of the transitional living program, named in her honor.
